AM2 Examiner

Are you a qualified electrician looking for a fresh challenge? Do you take pride in your trade and want to give something back? If you're passionate about supporting the next generation of electricians and want to use your skills in a new and rewarding way — this could be the perfect role for you.

A leading training provider — one of the UK’s largest in the electrical training space — is on the hunt for a committed AM2 Examiner to join their established team in Birmingham.

Main Purpose

This isn’t your average 9–5. You’ll play a critical role in preparing apprentices and private candidates for their final assessment — helping them cross the finish line and gain their ECS Gold Card. It’s the moment their journey into becoming fully qualified electricians becomes real. And you’ll be right there to guide, assess, and support them.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing:

As an AM2 Examiner, your day-to-day will be practical, structured, and incredibly impactful. You’ll be:

  • Assessing candidates undertaking their AM2 or AM2S End Point Assessments — including tasks like installation, fault-finding, testing, and inspection.
  • Delivering short 1-to-1 inductions before the test and observing candidates as they complete their practical assessments.
  • Following a clear, consistent marking scheme to ensure assessments are fair, transparent, and in line with national standards.
  • Dismantling bays post-assessment and preparing for the next intake.
  • Ordering and managing stock to ensure assessment materials are always ready.
  • Occasionally supporting with internal or commercial training programmes when assessments are not running.

Whether candidates are sitting the full AM2 or just resitting individual sections, you’ll be part of a process that builds careers and boosts industry standards.

What We're Looking For:

We’re not just after someone with experience — we’re looking for someone who cares. Someone who knows the value of quality training, understands the pressure candidates are under, and wants to help them succeed.

You'll need:

  • A recognised Level 3 electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2360 Part 1 & 2 or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working on the tools in the construction or building services sector.
  • Gold Card status (Electrician or Approved Electrician) from the JIB.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification and Testing & Inspection (C&G 2391 or equivalent).
  • Assessor qualifications (D32/D33, TAQA, or CAVA) – or a willingness to train if not currently held.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety procedures in electrical settings.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, approachable attitude.
  • Basic IT skills to manage digital marking and scheduling.
  • A First Aid qualification (can be provided during induction).

What’s In It For You:

- Full training and development opportunities – including funded qualifications.

- 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays

- Company pension scheme

- Death in service benefit

- Free on-site parking

- Friendly hours: Monday to Thursday – 8:00am to 4:30pm. Friday – 8:00am to 4:00pm (Includes 30-minute lunch break)

- DBS check funded and arranged by the employer

- Supportive, passionate team culture in a well-equipped, modern AM2 centre
