We’re excited to be recruiting on behalf of a nationally recognised education and skills provider for a Vocational Tutor – Construction, based at a thriving skills centre in Rochdale. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with industry expertise and a passion for education to make a tangible impact on learners’ futures.
Are you a construction professional looking to pass on your skills to the next generation? Do you believe in the power of practical learning and want to help shape confident, job-ready learners?
Main Purpose
As a Vocational Tutor – Construction, you’ll be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality training for post-16 learners pursuing careers in construction. You’ll play a key role in helping learners build essential knowledge and skills, instilling both technical ability and industry-ready behaviours.
From designing engaging lesson plans to supporting learners who face challenges in education, you’ll bring a hands-on approach to every aspect of the learner journey. You'll also contribute to recruitment efforts, support safeguarding processes, and collaborate with a wider team of passionate educators.
This is a rewarding, learner-focused position for someone who values practical learning, inclusive education, and seeing their students go on to thrive in apprenticeships and employment.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver practical, engaging sessions in construction trades (e.g. bricklaying, joinery, general construction).
- Develop high-quality teaching materials, schemes of work, and individual learning plans tailored to diverse learner needs.
- Promote your programmes and help recruit new learners to ensure occupancy levels are maintained.
- Carry out robust initial assessments and ongoing progress reviews to ensure each learner is on the right path.
- Utilise digital platforms like SoL-VE, Teams, and webinar tools to enhance blended learning delivery.
- Provide structured feedback and assessment, setting clear goals for development and achievement.
- Maintain the safety and wellbeing of learners at all times, ensuring full compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Support quality improvement processes and work in line with OFSTED expectations and curriculum standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure an exceptional learner experience.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is not only technically skilled but also a strong communicator and mentor. You should be confident in a classroom or workshop setting, approachable with learners of all backgrounds, and committed to supporting each student’s individual progress.
You’ll be expected to bring energy, structure, and empathy to your sessions — creating a safe, inclusive environment where students feel valued and inspired to succeed.
What You’ll Need to Bring:
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
- At least 1–2 years’ experience in teaching, tutoring or training delivery within construction or a vocational setting.
- Industry experience and up-to-date knowledge of construction practices and safety standards.
- Experience delivering against quality benchmarks (e.g. OFSTED, awarding bodies).
- Confidence in using digital tools to support learning and engage learners online and in-person.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a learner-first mindset.
- Experience working with LLDD learners and/or learners with behavioural challenges is an advantage.
What’s in It for You?
This is more than just a teaching job — it’s a chance to influence the future workforce of the construction industry. You’ll join a dynamic organisation committed to high-quality training, inclusivity, and creating meaningful opportunities for learners of all backgrounds.
Benefits include:
- A supportive environment with ongoing CPD and leadership development opportunities.
- Access to modern training facilities and digital learning tools.
- Autonomy to shape your own delivery style within a quality-assured framework.
- The opportunity to work for a socially-driven organisation that puts learners at the centre of everything.
- Flexible working arrangements and a culture of openness around wellbeing and work-life balance.
