Deputy Head of Curriculum

Educated Appointments are delighted to be supporting a values-led, learner-focused apprenticeship training provider in the recruitment of a Deputy Head of Curriculum.

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced apprenticeship professional who is ready to take the next step in their career. Whether you are currently working as a Lead Assessor, IQA, Curriculum Lead, Quality Lead or experienced delivery professional with management responsibilities, this role offers the chance to broaden your impact and play a key part in shaping high-quality apprenticeship provision.

Our client is a growing training provider with a strong commitment to supporting learners, employers and staff to achieve their full potential. They deliver meaningful apprenticeship programmes that help people build confidence, develop practical skills and progress in their careers. As the organisation continues to grow, they are now looking for a capable, motivated and hands-on Deputy Head of Curriculum to support the day-to-day leadership of delivery, quality assurance, curriculum development and team performance.

This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail while also contributing to the bigger picture. You will have the opportunity to influence curriculum quality, support and develop colleagues, improve learner outcomes and help ensure apprenticeship provision remains engaging, compliant and impactful.

Main Purpose

As Deputy Head of Curriculum, you will work closely with the Head of Curriculum to support both the operational and strategic development of apprenticeship delivery.

The role will involve a blend of leadership, quality assurance, curriculum improvement and direct delivery. You will provide day-to-day line management and support to Assessors and IQAs, helping to ensure learners receive a consistently high-quality experience from enrolment through to End-Point Assessment.

This is very much a hands-on leadership role. You will be someone who is happy to support delivery where needed, model best practice, coach colleagues and help embed strong systems, processes and standards across the team.

The organisation is in an exciting stage of growth and development, so the role would suit someone who is flexible, proactive and comfortable working in a setting where ideas, initiative and practical problem-solving are genuinely valued. You will have the chance to make a visible difference, not only to learners and employers, but also to the colleagues you support and the wider quality of provision.

Responsibilities

You will support the Head of Curriculum in the design, review and continuous improvement of apprenticeship programmes, ensuring they are well-sequenced, purposeful and aligned to employer needs, learner development and regulatory expectations.

A key focus of the role will be supporting curriculum review and improvement, particularly in response to apprenticeship reforms and the evolving expectations of the sector. You will help ensure curriculum intent, implementation and impact are clear, meaningful and embedded within delivery practice.

You will provide day-to-day line management for Assessors and IQAs across a range of provision areas. This will include regular 1:1s, coaching, performance support, caseload discussions, standardisation activity and helping colleagues remain focused on learner progress, timely achievement and high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.

You will also play an important part in strengthening learner tracking, performance monitoring and the use of KPIs across the team. This will include identifying learners who may require additional support, ensuring progress is reviewed effectively and helping staff take timely action to keep learners on track.

Alongside this, you will support internal quality assurance activity, including sampling, feedback, standardisation, audit preparation and compliance checks. You will help ensure assessment practice is consistent, robust and supports positive learner outcomes.

Depending on your background, qualifications and business needs, you may also maintain a small caseload of learners. This could include delivering teaching, coaching and assessment sessions, carrying out workplace observations, completing learner reviews and preparing apprentices for End-Point Assessment.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across curriculum, quality, delivery and operations, helping to embed a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and support.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Head of Curriculum with the development, review and improvement of apprenticeship programmes
  • Help ensure curriculum planning reflects strong intent, effective sequencing and positive learner impact
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to Assessors and IQAs
  • Monitor learner progress, caseload activity, timely completions and performance against agreed expectations
  • Support staff through coaching, feedback, 1:1s, standardisation and development planning
  • Contribute to the development and use of meaningful KPIs across delivery and quality activity
  • Support internal quality assurance processes, including sampling, feedback, standardisation and audit readiness
  • Help prepare for external scrutiny, including Ofsted, awarding organisation and funding compliance activity
  • Contribute to SAR and QIP activity, helping identify strengths and areas for improvement
  • Support curriculum reform activity and ensure delivery remains current, compliant and effective
  • Deliver teaching, coaching and assessment to a small learner caseload where required
  • Support learners with progress reviews, workplace observations and End-Point Assessment preparation
  • Model high standards of teaching, learning, assessment and professional practice
  • Support the effective use of systems, processes and e-portfolio platforms
  • Build positive relationships with employers, learners and colleagues
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement

This is a role with genuine variety, purpose and scope.

You will not simply be maintaining existing processes. You will be helping shape and improve them. You will have the opportunity to support curriculum development, influence quality standards, strengthen team performance and contribute to the future direction of apprenticeship provision.

For the right person, this role offers an excellent platform for progression. As the organisation continues to grow, there is potential for the successful candidate to further develop their leadership responsibilities and sector influence.

You will be joining a provider that values practical experience, professional standards and positive relationships. The culture is supportive, ambitious and learner-centred, with a clear focus on helping people succeed.

This role would be ideal for someone who wants to feel trusted, involved and able to make a real contribution.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in apprenticeships, quality assurance and learner-focused delivery.

You will understand what good apprenticeship provision looks like and be confident supporting others to achieve it. You will be organised, approachable and professional, with the ability to balance supportive leadership with clear expectations.

You may already have experience line managing staff, or you may have been mentoring assessors, supporting IQA activity, leading standardisation or taking responsibility for quality improvement within your current role.

You will be confident reviewing learner progress, identifying risks, supporting timely completions and helping staff improve practice. You will also bring a good understanding of compliance, funding rules, Ofsted expectations and End-Point Assessment readiness.

Most importantly, you will be someone who cares about quality. You will want learners to have the best possible experience, employers to receive excellent service and staff to feel supported, developed and clear about expectations.

Applicants must have:

  • Assessor qualification, such as CAVA or equivalent
  • Internal Quality Assurance qualification, such as IQA, TAQA Level 4 or equivalent
  • AET Level 3 or recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience delivering apprenticeship programmes
  • Experience of internal quality assurance processes
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or line managing staff
  • Strong understanding of apprenticeship standards, learner progress and End-Point Assessment
  • Good knowledge of funding rules, compliance requirements and Ofsted expectations
  • Ability to monitor performance, learner progress and quality indicators
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Confidence using systems to track progress and support quality improvement
  • A flexible, hands-on and solutions-focused approach

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience supporting Ofsted inspection activity
  • Experience contributing to SAR and QIP processes
  • Experience using Aptem or a similar e-portfolio system
  • Occupational competence in healthcare, adult care, clinical support or a related sector
  • Experience leading standardisation meetings or quality improvement projects
  • Experience supporting curriculum design, sequencing or apprenticeship reform activity

The successful candidate will be someone who combines technical knowledge with warmth, professionalism and strong people skills.

You will be comfortable having constructive conversations, supporting colleagues through change and helping teams stay focused on quality and learner outcomes. You will be equally comfortable reviewing data, discussing learner progress, supporting curriculum planning and stepping into delivery when needed.

You will be proactive, resilient and adaptable, with the confidence to work in a growing organisation where no two days are exactly the same. You will enjoy being part of a team that is developing and improving, and you will be motivated by the opportunity to contribute ideas, support colleagues and see the impact of your work.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing apprenticeship provider in a role where you can genuinely make your mark.

You will have the chance to:

  • Step into a meaningful curriculum and quality leadership role
  • Support and develop a team of Assessors and IQAs
  • Influence learner experience and achievement
  • Contribute to curriculum improvement and apprenticeship reform activity
  • Strengthen quality assurance and performance monitoring processes
  • Work closely with senior leadership
  • Build your own leadership experience in a supportive environment
  • Play a key role in the continued growth and improvement of provision

For someone who is passionate about apprenticeships, quality and people development, this role offers the perfect blend of leadership, delivery and impact.

If you are an experienced apprenticeship professional looking for a role where you can lead, support, improve and grow, we would love to hear from you.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking training provider that is committed to high standards, positive learner outcomes and creating a supportive environment for both staff and apprentices.
