Main Purpose
The main purpose of the post is to ensure the successful achievement of Apprenticeship standards and/or qualifications by learners. This will involve teaching and learning and providing pastoral support to learners through regular remote meetings, as well as by telephone and web-based communication tools. The postholder will be responsible for all aspects of a learner’s programme once they are engaged. Assessor Coaches will also be expected to play an active role in managing relationships with employers and identifying opportunities for additional enrolments.
Responsibilities
Manage an agreed number of learners, up to a maximum of 40 learners. For part time Assessor Coaches this number is prorated on the basis of 8 learners being a 1 day caseload
Undertake Recognition of Prior Learning assessments with learners
Provide advice to the Line Manager/Mentor regarding their commitment and the role they play
Work with learners and employers to design an individual training plan that meets the needs of both. Work with the Line Manager/Mentor to ensure the training plan records training to be provided by the employer.
Provide teaching and learning to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for learners to successfully complete their programmes. This includes remote, online/virtual and telephone/SMS support for both individuals and groups (e.g. workshops)
Ensure every learner receives at least one teaching and learning session in each calendar month
Assess learners’ work using a range of assessment methods and techniques
Provide teaching, learning and support relating to behaviour and attitudes as outlined in Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework
Provide teaching, learning and support relating to personal development as outlined in Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework, including for example British Values, Equality & Diversity, e-Safety, personal health and the development of personal traits and characteristics that enable learners to develop into active citizens making a positive contribution to society
Provide pastoral support to learners, working with them to address personal issues which may be affecting their progress on their programme. This will involve liaising and working with the company’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and possibly external agencies where required.
Proactively engage with the Line Manager/Mentor to ensure his/her continued active support in delivering the programme and monitoring learner progress and performance. Where this is inadequate, report this to the Head of Curriculum & Delivery at an early stage
Alert the line manager/mentor of any factors which create a risk that the learner may not successfully complete their programme in line with company procedures
Ensure all learner administration records are fully and accurately completed in line with quality and audit requirements
Comply with company operating policies and procedures at all times
Participate in team and standardisation meetings as requested by the line manager and/or Directors
Act as ambassador for the business when meeting with third party organisations, ensuring the reputation of the business is upheld and enhanced at all times
Actively take responsibility for own learning and development, including a minimum of 45 hours of CPD per annum, details of which must be recorded using forms provided.
Actively participate in the company’s Quality Assurance and Improvement programme, including participation in observations of teaching and learning
- To support the Head of Curriculum & Delivery in reviewing performance against Assessor Coach KPIs and addressing areas for improvement where these are identified.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Professional/Vocational qualifications in the subject being taught to one level above the level being taught AND/OR
- a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a middle/senior level role AND demonstrable knowledge of the knowledge principles relating to the subject matter AND/OR
- A combination of the aboveA relevant teaching or assessing qualification
Qualifications in English, Maths to level 2
Knowledge/understanding and experience of working within the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework
An evidenced track record of a high level of achievement of learners being supported
Experience delivering Apprenticeship programmes in the relevant subject area
