Main Purpose

As the Engineering Tutor (Mechanical), you’ll be delivering a range of technical units at both Level 3 and Level 4 to engineering apprentices studying towards BTEC and HNC qualifications. You’ll teach approximately 24–26 hours per week, with additional time allocated for marking, preparation, and learner support. An administrative day is included in your working week and can be completed remotely.

Responsibilities

This is a hands-on, classroom-based teaching role — ideal for someone with academic or industry expertise in mechanical engineering who is confident in working with learners at higher levels.

Key Teaching Areas:

You’ll be delivering a combination of units that may include:

HNC Level 4:

  • Engineering Design
  • Managing a Professional Project
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Engineering Science
  • Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines

BTEC Level 3 & AME:

  • Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials
  • AME-023 Workplace Improvement

About You

You’ll be an experienced educator or industry professional with the knowledge, qualifications, and passion to deliver high-quality, learner-focused lessons. You’ll enjoy supporting apprentices on their journey and take pride in seeing their skills and confidence grow under your guidance.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience delivering Mechanical Engineering content at Level 3 and Level 4
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical principles, design, thermodynamics, and engineering mathematics
  • Recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
  • Relevant engineering qualification (minimum Level 4 or equivalent experience)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage learners
  • A collaborative and flexible approach

Desirable:

  • Experience working with apprenticeship standards and awarding organisations
  • Knowledge of ESFA/OFSTED expectations
  • Familiarity with EAL, Pearson, or other awarding body standards
