Main Purpose
As an English & Maths Trainer, you’ll play a central role in helping learners of all backgrounds achieve their functional skills qualifications—improving their confidence, employability, and life chances. Working with adult learners and apprentices across the region, you’ll use a mix of 1:1 coaching, group sessions, and creative teaching strategies to inspire progress.

Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver English and Maths Functional Skills training (Entry Level to Level 2) in line with learner needs and programme requirements.
- Support learners via 1:1 coaching, small group delivery, and employer-based sessions.
- Manage a caseload of learners and support their progress, achievement, and motivation.
- Conduct initial assessments and diagnostics to tailor delivery and identify gaps.
- Liaise with employers, assessors, and other trainers to ensure learners remain engaged and on track.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper-based records of learner progress.
- Adapt lesson plans and delivery methods to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
- Keep up to date with qualification changes and ensure timely compliance with awarding body procedures.
Who We're Looking For:
Essential:
- Experience delivering English and/or Maths Functional Skills (Entry Level to Level 2)
- Minimum Level 2 English and Maths qualifications
- Experience supporting a diverse range of learners, including those with additional support needs
- Confident working independently across multiple sites
- Excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills
- Driving licence and access to own transport
Desirable:
- Experience delivering GCSE English
- Level 5 subject specialism in English
- Recognised teaching qualification (minimum Level 4)
