You’ll deliver engaging and inclusive ESOL sessions to adult learners at various stages of their language journey, primarily from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3. The focus is on real-world language development—helping learners to build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for everyday use, work, and social situations.
Your teaching approach will be learner-centered, flexible, and dynamic, using a range of teaching methods and resources to accommodate mixed-ability groups and different learning styles.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-impact ESOL teaching in a group setting to learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Plan, adapt, and review lesson content to meet the needs of each cohort.
- Foster a supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and peer-to-peer learning.
- Track learner progress using assessments, feedback, and observation.
- Support learners in setting and working toward personal learning goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure learners receive wraparound support.
- Attend standardisation meetings, contribute to the curriculum’s Quality Improvement Plan, and ensure all delivery meets audit and compliance standards.
- Achieve targets linked to learner retention, achievement, and progression.
- Keep up to date with ESOL teaching practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Need
- A recognised ESOL/TEFL qualification (e.g., CELTA, TESOL, or PGCE in ESOL).
- Experience teaching ESOL to adults, ideally in both face-to-face and virtual settings.
- A strong understanding of inclusive learning and the needs of learners from migrant, refugee, or asylum-seeking communities.
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and organisational skills.
- Confidence in using digital platforms such as Microsoft 365 and MS Teams.
- A positive and proactive attitude toward supporting learners and contributing to a wider team.
Desirable but Not Essential
- A positive and proactive attitude toward supporting learners and contributing to a wider team.
- Experience working specifically with vulnerable or hard-to-reach learners.
- Understanding of curriculum frameworks such as CEFR or the ESOL Core Curriculum.
- Ability to differentiate learning materials effectively.
- Multilingual skills or experience living/working abroad.
- Trainer/Assessor qualifications and a commitment to personal CPD.
What You’ll Get in Return
You’ll become part of a mission-led organisation that values integrity, innovation, and learner outcomes. In return, you'll be supported with structured CPD, opportunities for growth, and a collaborative working environment.
If you are passionate about teaching and believe in the power of language to transform lives, we’d love to hear from you.
