Mechanical Engineering Instructor

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer who’s ready for something a little different?

This is a fantastic opportunity to move away from the tools and use your industry knowledge to inspire, support and develop the next generation of engineers.

We’re working with a well-established engineering training provider in Hull who are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Instructor to join their team. You don’t need to have been a teacher before. What matters most is that you have strong hands-on mechanical engineering experience, the confidence to share your knowledge, and a genuine interest in helping learners build the skills they need for successful careers in industry.

You’ll be delivering high-quality practical and theory-based training to apprentices and commercial learners, working closely with a supportive team who will help you develop your own teaching, assessing and training skills along the way.

This is a brilliant career move for a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys mentoring others, solving practical problems and seeing people grow in confidence.

You’ll be joining an organisation with a strong reputation for engineering training, excellent employer links, and a clear purpose: helping people develop the skills that industry needs. It’s a role where your experience really matters, and where the work you do has a direct impact on learners, employers and the future engineering workforce.

Full support will be provided to help you gain the necessary teaching and assessing qualifications, so this could be a great opportunity if you’ve ever thought about moving into education but weren’t sure where to start.

Main Purpose

As a Mechanical Engineering Instructor, you’ll deliver engaging, practical and professional training across mechanical engineering subjects. This will include supporting apprentices and adult learners to develop their technical knowledge, workshop skills and workplace behaviours.

Responsibilities

You’ll be involved in delivering training linked to areas such as:

  • Mechanical planned and reactive maintenance
  • Lathe and milling machine operation
  • Safe use of hand tools
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Health and safety practices and procedures

You’ll also support learners to understand how their skills apply in real engineering environments, helping them build confidence, competence and a strong foundation for their future careers.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong mechanical engineering experience and a passion for passing on their knowledge.

You’ll need:

  • A minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance engineering
  • Knowledge of machining, including lathe and/or milling operations
  • Experience using hand tools safely and effectively
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and/or pneumatics
  • Good understanding of health and safety in an engineering environment
  • Good communication, interpersonal and IT skills
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

Experience in the chemical process industry and/or CAD would be beneficial, but it isn’t essential.

Assessor, IQA or teaching qualifications would be an advantage, but they are not essential. If you have the right industry background and attitude, full support will be provided to help you develop into the role.

You'll also receive an excellent benefits package, including:

  • 42 days annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Annual bonus payment, dependent on organisational performance
  • Pension scheme with 5% employee contribution and 7% employer contribution
  • Life insurance at 4x annual salary
  • Private healthcare after a 3-month qualifying period
  • Free on-site parking
  • Branded workwear
  • Support to gain relevant teaching, training and assessing qualifications

Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 4:15pm, and Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Please note that some travel between training centres and employer sites will be required, so a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.

Safeguarding

This organisation is committed to safeguarding learners. The successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check and register on a suitable instructor or teacher training programme.
