Main Purpose
As National Sales Manager, you will be responsible for leading the commercial strategy, managing a national sales pipeline, and driving employer engagement to meet ambitious business development goals.
Your role will cover everything from strategic planning and pipeline management to high-level stakeholder engagement. You will be expected to produce sector-specific plans, identify new market opportunities, and deliver high-impact solutions that support the organisation’s priority sectors.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the design and execution of a national sales strategy that aligns with the organisation’s growth objectives.
- Produce and implement sector-specific plans targeting priority industries and large employers
- Contribute to the wider divisional business plan, working closely with the Commercial Director and senior leadership team
Business Development & Employer Engagement
- Build and nurture relationships with large employers, industry partners, and strategic stakeholders.
- Conduct 360° business diagnostics to understand employer needs and develop tailored action plans
- Deliver a personal target of 180 apprenticeship starts per year, contributing to an overall team goal of 1,200 starts annually
- Proactively identify new revenue opportunities, ensuring long-term sustainable growth
Sales Management & Reporting
- Manage and maintain an accurate sales pipeline, ensuring clarity on opportunities, risks, and forecasts
- Use CRM tools to monitor progress, track performance, and support data-driven decision-making
- Provide regular reporting to the senior leadership team on sales performance, market trends, and growth opportunities
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with delivery, quality, finance, and operations teams to ensure seamless onboarding and high-quality employer experiences
- Support internal teams to maximise cross-selling and value-added opportunities
- Represent the organisation in cross-sector initiatives, employer meetings, and industry events to strengthen the brand and expand its network.
About You
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be a dynamic and results-focused sales leader with strong business acumen and the ability to inspire confidence in senior stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Senior-level experience in sales, business development, or account management, ideally in education, skills, or workforce development.
- Proven ability to deliver and exceed ambitious sales targets in a competitive market.
- Strong consultative sales approach, capable of building long-term strategic relationships with large employers.
- Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of business operations and decision-making processes.
- Experience managing sales pipelines and CRM systems with a focus on accurate reporting and forecasting.
- Highly developed negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel nationally
Desirable Experience
- Previous exposure to apprenticeships, training provision, or government-funded skills programmes.
- Knowledge of economic development principles and workforce planning.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects or managing multidisciplinary teams.
